he members of the G.O.O.D. Music Record label recently covered Complex magazine. Unfortunately, Nigeria’s own D’Banj was not included on that cover. EverywhereNigeria had the following to say about this act done to our very own celeb: ‘Many may use this as an opportunity to laugh at D’Banj, but I think that we should all take this as a lesson. With the way that D’Banj is being treated as second rate in America, one must really ask, was it all worth it? He was a respected king in Nigeria. He had a beautiful family with Mo’Hits, why did he throw it all away? All in the name of Americanizing. Nigerians, be proud of who you are, be proud of where you come from, and remember to never hold anyone above you. Americanizing yourself does not necessarily mean that you are BETTERING yourself. Instead you are only making alterations. Alterations that you find out are not needed. Hopefully many of us can learn from D’Banj instead of learning the hard way. Be a king in your own jungle’. But looking at this case critically, informationnigeria gathered that the Koko master was not left out in the inside cover, and this is one area where one gets very logical about how Nigerians tend to take half information and neglect the other part. Even though our own celeb didn’t make the cover, as not everyone would have been able to make it, he was not left out in the list of those that made the inside cover, stamping his membership in the house of GOOD MUSIC. The Koko master is at the left bottom.

over thosands of people rendered homeless in jos nigeria

Over 3000 people have been rendered homeless, and over 200 houses destroyed, in a torrential rainfall in Jos, capital of Plateau State. This compounds the misery in the area, which has lately been the scene of intense communal and religious violence. The areas mostly affected by the rain and floods are Rikkos, Ungwan Rogo, Gangare, and Ali Kazaure. Abdulsalam Mohammed, an official of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), which is giving some relief materials to those affected, said his agency was liaising with traditional rulers about the distribution alongside continuing with the search for the many people that are still missing. According to some of the affected refugees that SaharaReporters talked to, many families are still looking for their loved ones.

ghana president dies after illeness

Ghana President John Atta Mills died suddenly Tuesday hours after being taken ill and months before...

Ghana President John Atta Mills died suddenly Tuesday hours after being taken ill and months before he was to seek re-election in the country seen as a bastion of democracy in west Africa.

The 68-year-old Mills, who oversaw the start of large-scale oil production in Ghana in December 2010, had recently traveled to the United States for a medical check-up. His cause of death was not given.

In accordance with Ghana's constitution, Vice President John Dramani Mahama was sworn in as president before an emergency session of parliament following the death, pledging to maintain stability as he serves out the remainder of Mills' term.

"I wish Ghanaians to be assured that all is well," he said. "We are going to maintain the peace, unity and stability that Ghana is noted for."

He declared a week of national mourning, with flags to be flown at half-mast.

Mills died in a hospital in the capital Accra while receiving treatment, his office said. While the cause was not specified, he had recently shown signs of illness, including recently losing his voice and a gradual loss of weight.

The late president had recently travelled to the United States for what had been described as a routine medical checkup.

There were unconfirmed reports in local media that he had throat cancer, while false rumours of his death had also previously spread.

Presidential elections are set for December in a country seen as a rare example of stable democracy in west Africa and which recently joined the ranks of the world's large-scale oil producers.

Mills was to be the ruling party's candidate after fending off an unprecedented challenge for the nomination.

Condolences began pouring in for the late leader, including from US President Barack Obama, who chose Ghana for his first visit to sub-Saharan Africa as president in 2009.

"President Mills tirelessly worked to improve the lives of the Ghanaian people," Obama said in a statement.

"He helped promote economic growth in Ghana in the midst of challenging global circumstances and strengthened Ghana's strong tradition of democracy."

West African leaders, including in Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Togo, paid tribute to Mills.

The capital Accra was sombre, with activity slowing and residents gathering in the streets to discuss the news.

Emmanuel Bombande, executive director of the the Accra-based West Africa Network for Peacebuilding, said "people have a lot of faith in the Ghananian constitution", adding that he trusted the transition would be an orderly one.

"It was a total surprise, although ordinary people knew that the president had not been 100-percent well," he said, mentioning his recent trip to the United States. Bombande called Mills "a man of integrity".

Pindana Mohammed, a market trader in the capital, said he was shocked by the news when he heard it on the radio.

"I am not a supporter of the ruling government, but I respect so much the president because of the way he carried himself," he said.

Mills took over as Ghana's president in January 2009.

He narrowly won the vote in 2008 with a less than one percent margin against a candidate from the party of incumbent John Kufuor, widely respected for having bowed out following his two terms in office.

In July last year, Mills was nominated to be the ruling National Democratic Congress party's presidential candidate for December 2012 elections.

The primary represented the first time in the country's history that a sitting president competed for his own party's nomination.

Mills beat his only rival in the party primary, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, the wife of ex-military leader Jerry Rawlings.

He rose to prominence in 1997 when Rawlings named him vice president -- a position he held until the former coup leader-turned-elected president made way for Kufuor after the 2000 elections.

After finishing his law studies in Britain, Mills came home to teach law for 25 years at a Ghana university.

Ghana, a country of some 25 million people, recently joined the ranks of the world's large-scale oil producers.

The country has begun producing oil from its offshore Jubilee field, one of the largest discoveries in West Africa in recent years. The field's operator Tullow has estimated that the field's recoverable resources amount to up to one billion barrels.

weac denies the release of 2012may/june results

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has debunked the insinuation going around that it has released the result of the 2012 May/June West African Senior secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

In a statement made available to journalists in Lagos by Deputy Director (Public Affairs), Yusuf Ari, the examination body says it has only concluded the marking of the examinations papers and has not release the result.

The examination body further warned candidates and other stakeholders to be wary of falling victim to the schemes of fraudsters.

erps knocks jonathan over budgets implementation

Lawmakers in the House of Representatives yesterday threatened to commence impeachment moves against President Goodluck Jonathan over refusal of the Federal Government to implement the 2012 Appropriation Act.
Trouble started when Rep. Albert Sam-Tsokwa (PDP, Taraba) and 20 others moved a motion on “Non-Implementation of the 2012 Budget’, arguing that the “2012 National Budget was passed with an aggregate expenditure figure of N4.887 trillion, including the N180 billion for Subsidy Re-Investment(SURE) Programme”.
Tsokwa expressed regret that despite huge earnings from agencies of government in the 1st and 2nd quota, the Federal Ministry of Finance  under Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was yet to release monies allocated to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Chairman of the House committee on Appropriations Rep. John Enoh (PDP, Cross Rivers) lamented that the government has consistently refused to implement the budget.
For his part, Chairman House Committee on Defence Rep. Bashir Adamu Kazaure (PDP, Jigawa) said “there are other governments within the government who appropriate funds with impunity without recourse to the National Assembly.”
Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin (PDP, Kano), who chairs the committee on Finance reeled out figures from the various revenue generating agencies.
The House unanimously passed a single resolution urging the President to direct  Finance Minister to “stop forthwith continued violation of the 2012 Appropriation Act by releasing all outstanding funds to MDAs.”

Thursday 19 July 2012

Members of the House of Representatives on Thursday threatened to begin impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan if he failed to achieve 100% budget implementation by September this year.

The lawmakers accused the President of breaching the 2012 Appropriation Act and poorly executing the budget.

Jonathan was given up to September to achieve “100% execution” of the budget or face impeachment proceedings.

The Minority Leader of the House, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, who proposed the amendment, received a resounding applause from the majority of members at Thursday’s session.

But the Presidency said in a reaction on Thursday that both the executive and the legislature agreed on the need for good budget implementation.

President’s spokesman, Reuben Abati, said Jonathan had made it clear several times that his administration placed a premium on performance.

Abati said, “The House and the presidency are on the same page on budget implementation. Just as the house is concerned, Mr. President is concerned too.

What happened today in the House was ironic and a big coincidence because two ministries, interior and police affairs, were in the Villa today to make presentations on their key performance index.” He added that budget implementation was a process and that the process of implementing the 2012 budget was ongoing.

Gbajabiamila had proposed the amendment to a motion before the House on the poor implementation of the budget.

“If by September 18, the budget performance has not improved to 100%, we shall begin to invoke and draw up articles of impeachment against Mr. President,” he said.

Members shouted a loud “yes”, “yes”, “yes” and clapped for the minority leader as Gbajabiamila made the proposal.

He accused the executive of allegedly breaching the Appropriation Act, 2012 by engaging in “selective implementation” of the budget.

Gbajabiamila added, “What we have in our hands today is a budget of abracadabra; a budget of voodoo economy.

“I like Mr. President; he is a fine gentleman, but I like my people, the Nigerian people more.”

The original motion, which was moved by the Chairman, House Committee on Rules/Business, Mr. Albert Sam-Tsokwa, sought an interface between Jonathan and the leadership of the House on why it had been difficult for Ministries Departments and Agencies to implement the budget.

However, in the course of debate, lawmakers amended the motion, saying that a meeting with the President was not necessary.

Another amendment to the motion advised Jonathan to direct the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to “stop forthwith” the violation of Section 6 of the Act.

The amendment, which was proposed by the Chairman, House Committee on Works, Mr. Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi, demanded the immediate release of all the funds earmarked for projects in the first and second quarters of the year.

He said it was a breach of the law to hold on to funds budgeted for projects.

The session overwhelmingly endorsed the amendment.

However, there was a mild drama when a member representing Ogbia Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, Mr. Karibo Nadu, kicked against the impeachment threat.

Nadu, who represents Jonathan’s constituency, accused the House of deviating from the motion.

He argued that Gbajabiamila’s call for impeachment was “irrelevant” to the purpose of the motion.

“Mr. Speaker, the issue of impeachment of the President is not relevant to this motion.

“What has that got to do with budget implementation?”, he asked.

Nadu, was, however, shouted down by lawmakers who urged Gbajabiamila to continue with his submissions.

Gbajabiamila cited Section 143 of the 1999 Constitution, saying that any action of the President defined as “gross misconduct” by the National Assembly was sufficient grounds to initiate impeachment proceedings against him.

The Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Mr. John Enoh, expressed concern that the budget had performed less than “35 per cent” with about five months to the end of the year.

He observed that unlike previous budgets, this year’s budget of N4.8tn had no funding challenges.

Enoh noted that the budget had a capital component of N1.5tn and “has no issues with funding; it is a budget that is good for implementation.”

He told the House that out of the N1.5tn, only N404bn had been released to MDAs in the first and second quarters, “which is a far cry from what is expected.”

“When you look at accessing of the funds by the MDAs, only N200bn has been cash-backed.The budget implementation is about N35 per cent,” Enoh said.

He said the excuse that second quarter releases were based on performance by the MDAs was not tenable.

“The problem is that the will is lacking to implement a law that is passed by this House,” he said.

The Chairman, Committee on Finance, Mr. Abdulmuni Jibrin, told the House that revenue was not the problem of the budget.

According to him, revenue generating agencies like the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Nigerian Customs Service generated surpluses in the first and second quarters.

He said the FIRS had recorded 25 per cent excess revenue above the budgeted projection, while the Department of Petroleum Resources had an excess of N151bn by the end of June.

Jibrin stated that though the NNPC had continued to be secretive about Nigeria’s crude oil earnings, the price of the commodity had never fallen below the budgeted $72 since January.

“My conclusion is that we have enough money to implement our projects. An idea is being put in our psyche that we have no money. We should not allow that to happen,” he said.

Amid a tense atmosphere in the House, the Majority Leader of the House, Mrs. Mulikat Akande-Adeola, appealed for calm.

She said members to be patient with the President till the September deadline given to him for things to improve.

She urged, “This is our government; the executive and the legislature, we are all part of the same government. The concerns raised by the House are the concerns of Nigerians.

“But, let me say that we will definitely see changes by September.”

The motion was later passed by the House without a dissenting voice.

The session was presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal.
High rate of obesity in children worries surgeon

A leading surgeon operating on obese patients says he has seen young people so overweight during his career that they have not left home in eight years.

Jonathan Barry’s team at Morriston Hospital in Swansea has had 1,000 referrals in 18 months.

Dealing with obesity is costing the NHS in Wales an estimated £73m a year.

Plaid Cymru AM Lindsay Whittle claimed some parents were “killing their own children with kindness” by not tackling their intake of food.

Up to 90 morbidly obese patients a year undergo operations at the Welsh Institute of Metabolic and Obesity Surgery at Morriston to limit the capacity of their stomachs, or receive other treatment to reduce the number of calories they absorb.

Consultant bariatric surgeon Jonathan Barry told BBC Wales’ Sunday Politics programme: “A lot of them are cured of their diabetes and obviously there’s a cost benefit to that and after two-and-a-half years there’s a significant saving.

“We know that this is an expensive disease that isn’t going away.”

He added: “These people do have to be brave just to go outside the front door. I think a lot of my patients will tell me they feel quite embarrassed going anywhere and this just reinforces the problem.”

In the Yoruba culture, when people pray that a man should not leave the world through the same entrance by which he came into it, then something is apparently wrong with the sex drive of such a man. However, saying the same kind of prayer for Uroko Onoja might be a case of flogging a dead horse, as it is too late, after he was allegedly raped to death by his very own six (6) wives in the early hours of Tuesday.

Onoja, a resident of Ugbugbu Owukpa, Ogbadibo Local government area of Benue State was reported to have been a very wealthy and famous man. But he is also notorious for his love of sex. And this is probably what led him to end up having six women in his household – and his continuous patronage of other beautiful ladies in the society.

On the fateful Tuesday morning, at about 3 am, Uroko was said to have returned from a popular joint in the community, heading straight for the room of his youngest wife. However, according to this youngest wife, she and her co-wives had earlier on conspired that they would invade her room with knives and sticks whenever their husband came in to her, demanding that their husband have sex with all of them at once. Uroko resisted their attack, but he was overpowered by the women who ordered that the sex march begin with the youngest wife and to continue in that order to the top.

He had however stopped breathing when the fifth woman was making her way to the bed. The youngest wife explains, “Suddenly, my husband stopped breathing, and they all ran out, still laughing, but when they saw that I could not resuscitate him, they all ran into the forest.” The deceased’s body has since been deposited in a nearby mortuary. The village head, Okpe Odoh affirmed that the matter had been reported to the police and investigation was ongoing even as the youth of the community are helping the police in search of the escaped wives. Two of them have so far been apprehended.
The highly controversial singer is in the news again as she goes totally naked to promote her new fragrance, “Fame”. As is typical of this artiste, everything about the perfume seems weird – even her own comment on it!

The advertisement (which is in black-and-white as can be seen above) features a naked Lady Gaga lying on her side, holding a bottle of her Fame Fragrance and putting on absolutely nothing, save for a black mask on her face. A group of tiny men wearing thongs can be seen crawling over her body, and have been strategically positioned to cover her sensitive parts.

The description for the new fragrance reads:

“(the fragrance has notes of) tears of belladonna, crushed heart of tiger orchidea with a black veil of incense, pulverized apricot and the combinative essences of saffron and honey drops.”

However, Gaga’s personal explanation of the perfume is even more bizarre; the singer has told an Australian radio station that her Fame Fragrance makes you smell like “an expensive hooker.” She says, “[Blood and semen] is in the perfume but it doesn’t smell like it. You just get sort of the after feeling of sex from the semen and the blood is sort of primal. And the blood was taken from my own blood sample so it’s like a sense of having me on your skin.” A weird lady indeed!
Usain Bolt was barely visible through the thick row of hedges that guarded the track.

Still, the curious fans tried to sneak a peek at the world’s fastest man, if only for a brief second. Some climbed on railings in an attempt to peer over the top of the bushes, while others pushed the prickly branches to the side.

That is, until security sent them scurrying away.

Want to catch a glimpse of Bolt, Yohan Blake and the rest of the Jamaicans in action? Sorry, you’re going to have to wait for the London Olympics to start. They are well protected at their training compound inside the University of Birmingham campus.

And well taken care of, too.

The university has rolled out the red carpet for the roughly 47 athletes from the tiny Caribbean country who have shown up to train in peace. The organisers have brought in special beds – including a 7-footer so Bolt can comfortably rest his 6-5 frame – offered up an assortment of entertainment and catered meals to their particular taste in food.

No food request is over the top.

Well, almost.

Wayne Willis, one of the chefs in charge of the food spread, couldn’t find a goat’s head that someone desired. Other than that, he’s made sure they want for nothing, preparing a lot of jerk chicken and pork.

For added authenticity, Willis brought in Jamaican chef Karl Thomas to lend a hand in the kitchen.

“The food is flying out,” said Willis, who’s trying to keep up with the demand for grapes and kiwi fruit. “This is probably the most high-profile sort of thing I’ve been involved with in my career.”

So far, he’s earning a four-star review.

“The food is great,” said Veronica Campbell-Brown, who’s going for a third straight Olympic gold in the 200. “I really appreciate all the accommodations and the hospitality.”

The track is lovely.”

Around here, the Jamaicans are treated like rock stars. Pete Jackson, a defenseman on the school’s field hockey team, stopped by for a quick look at the squad. He climbed on a railing, clinging to the hedges to avoid falling, and glanced at Bolt stretching on the other side of the track.

“That’s him right there,” he called out to his buddies down below.

Indeed, it was. And Blake, too.

Think one of them is going to win the 100 when the training partners line up in London?

“I’d like Tyson Gay to win,” Jackson nonchalantly said. “I just like his attitude. … (but) it’s nice to see (the Jamaicans) here. It’s exciting.”

The Jamaicans are staying within walking distance of the track, in a place that’s under heavy watch. It’s simply to give the athletes their privacy without any interruptions.

Sturridge waits on Olympic verdict after illness

Great Britain and Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge will discover after Friday’s friendly against Brazil if his Olympic dream has been shattered by a meningitis scare.

Sturridge has only just returned to training after being diagnosed with viral meningitis and remains a doubt for the Olympic football tournament, which starts for Team GB against Senegal at Old Trafford on July 26.

The 22-year-old is expected to play some part against Brazil and manager Stuart Pearce will decide after the match at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium whether or not to keep Sturridge in his squad.

“He looks very good, to be fair. Obviously, we are hoping to play him in some part of the game tomorrow, and really make a final judgment call at that stage,” Pearce said.

“But everything we have asked of him at the moment, he’s done. He’s come through that okay.

“He has been blowing on occasions when he has done, but I think the game, from a physical point of view, will tell us quite a lot.”

After facing Senegal, Team GB’s two other group-stage fixtures are against the United Arab Emirates at Wembley on July 29 and Uruguay at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on August 1.

pandermonium as soldiers attack lagos state official

Pandemonium as soldiers attack Lagos officials
July 20, 2012 by Sesan Olufowobi and Eniola Akinkuotu 154 Comments

There was pandemonium on Wednesday at Murtala Muhammed Way, Yaba after some soldiers allegedly attacked policemen attached to the Lagos State special security outfit, the Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit.

It was learnt that the soldiers used bottles and stones to attack the task force officials.

They were also said to have punctured two tyres of the Black Maria belonging to the unit with knives.

According to eyewitnesses, trouble started when the task force officials, who were on patrol, accosted the driver of a commercial bus for obstructing traffic flow.

However, a soldier who was sitting in the bus snatched the key from the driver to prevent the officials from taking the bus away.

After few minutes of heated arguments, the soldier was said to have called for assistance from an army base not far from the scene of the trouble.

Within minutes, many soldiers trooped out from the base and began to throw stones and other objects at the task force officials.

Some of the soldiers were said to have gone to the Black Maria brought by the task force and deflated two of its tyres.

An eyewitness said comments from the soldiers suggested that they were also angry with way Governor Babatunde Fashola treated a Colonel, who drove on BRT lane on Tuesday.

As the situation tensed up, the task force officials also called for help to match the number of soldiers attacking them.

The crisis was allegedly escalated by a Lieutenant-Colonel who arrived on the scene and ordered the soldiers to bundle some of the task force officials into the barracks.

Calm was, however, restored when a senior task force official intervened and led his men away from the area without arresting the driver.

Task Force Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, confirmed the attack.

He said, “It as an affront on the state government because the soldiers vandalised government vehicle.

“The attack was uncalled for as those task force officials were on legitimate duty.”

He added that he would be reporting the attack to higher authorities in the state.

But the spokesman for 81 Division, Lt. Col. Kayode Ogunsanya, said he was not aware of the incident.

He said, “I don’t think such thing was reported and except it is reported, there is no way I will know.”

The spokesman for the state police command, Ms. Ngozi Braide, said, “I heard about the incident, but I have yet to been fully briefed on it.”
